Preventative Measures Seminar by Dr. Ellen MacPhee

Have you ever wondered why some days you can do a certain movement and then the next day, it feels totally foreign? Do you have pain or feel tension after playing your instrument? Ever wondered why your back hurts after a great session?

This class will touch on the anatomy of the musician, and how we can potentially overwork our muscles. We will learn techniques to help prevent overuse syndromes (like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tennis Elbow, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, etc) in the muscles we use to make our music. Stretching and correcting posture are the main topics of Dr. Ellen’s class. Everyone is encouraged to attend this class to learn some helpful tips to take home to share with your music community.

In 2006, Dr. Ellen MacPhee graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, Ontario and completed Nutritional Internship at TrueNorth Health, in Santa Rosa, California.

Dr. MacPhee now lives and works near Halifax, NS. Her “whole-family” practice is open to everyone, with a special interest in musician and performance overuse injuries.
